Superior Beverage Collab!

Great relationships are rare. A great brewery/distributor relationship might be the rarest of them all! It’s important to celebrate the good things in life – and what better way to celebrate than making a great beer together.

True to Our Roots

Classic beer styles are very important to BuckleDown. We love brewing beers that taste like beer; beers that provide a canvas to feature the beautiful flavors of malt and hops. A Vienna-style lager is a light amber beer, with a beautiful balance of flavors.

An important part of Superior’s heritage is the Original King of Beers. As a nod to that heritage, we sought out the hops originally bred for The King back in the 1970s. Willamette hops have a mild, slightly spicy character…perfect for a easy-drinking lager.

The Beer

Teufel Reisen weighs in at a crushable 5.5% ABV. A hattrick of old-world malts form the base of this beer, with a delicate touch of hop flavor and aroma to create the perfect finish.

The team at Superior really rolled up their sleeves for this brew – adding all the hops, throwing around bags of malt, and muscling out the spent mash. This was a truly collaborative brew in every sense of the word.

The Name

Even the name chosen for this beer, Teufel Reisen, comes from our partners at Superior Beverage. Back way before the Deufel family bought Superior Beverage in 1970, the family name was Teufel. But when their ancestors came over from Germany, they changed the T to a D, because Teufel meant “Devil” in German.

Fast forward many years later when Curt Deufel was in Germany for a friend’s wedding and saw a Roller Coaster at Oktoberfest named “Teufel Reisen,” which roughly translates to ‘Riding with the Devil’ or ‘Hell Raiser.” Curt may not have known it then, but it was a great name for a beer!
